Architectural Design: Cut Ups and Chimeras

Cut Ups and Chimeras is an exploration of abstraction, amalgamation, and purpose. From the title, chimeras are organisms that host more than one genotype making them a blend of two beings. In my investigation, I wanted to derive elements from iconic and innovative architectural structures to create something new. I started with ancient Greek and Roman structures and abstracted their forms into recyclable modules. I repeated this process with other iconic structures from throughout time and did many exercises mixing the different forms. The end goal was to make a tower with our amalgamated findings. I decided to make a sustainable, symbiotic, and immersive forest sanctuary with many inviting spaces such as viewing decks, an aviary, an art gallery, and meditative spaces made entirely out of repurposed wood and metal.
